It’s that time of the year again! It’s the start of Awards season!! The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning and as usual, there were some good, bad, and surprising nominations. Come on, it wouldn’t be the golden globes without some odd or annoying nods, now would it? So here is are the nominations and with it, my either long or short analysis!
Best Television Series – Drama
I’d just like to tell you all this one thing that I noticed first from this list. Boardwalk Empire is THE ONLY show returning in this category. The other thing I want to mention is that Ryan Murphy is LOVED by the HFPA. They adore him, so do the Emmys which is why, come August, I won’t be surprised when American Horror Story gets nominated there too. Boss, eh, I could care less. I am upset that it got nominated over Breaking Bad or Justified, but whateves, it’s the Globes, silliness like this is expected. But out of all these Nominations I am MOST excited about Game of Thrones and Homeland. I am SOOOOO happy that the HFPA corrected the mistake that the SAG awards made by nominating the AMAZING Homeland. I hope it wins too. It is by far the best show in this category. But! If Boardwalk wins I will not complain. It had a very good second season and I won’t protest its second win.
Best Television Series – Comedy Or Musical
I need to start watching Enlightened, which from what I understand had a very excellent first season. Modern Family will probably win again. And I won’t care. But in all honesty, Parks and Recreation should have been in this category…just saying.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
Steve Buscemi, “Boardwalk Empire”
Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad”
Kelsey Grammer, “Boss”
Jeremy Irons, “The Borgias”
Damian Lewis, “Homeland”
All I care about is that Bryan Cranston and Damian Lewis were nominated. Wish Kyle Chandler was nominated but oh well. You win some you lose some.
Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Drama
All I care about, Claire Danes being nominated. She’s pretty much a lock to win too. Also, I love that Madeline Stowe snuck in a nomination for Revenge. She really is quite fantastic. This year Piper Perabos oddball nomination was replaced by Callie Thorne for Necessary Roughness. Honestly her nod took away Katey Segal and Connie Britton.
Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical
Laura Dern, “Enlightened”
Zooey Deschanel, “The New Girl”
Tina Fey, “30 Rock”
Laura Linney, “The Big C”
Amy Poehler, “Parks and Recreation”
We all knew Fey, Linny, and Deschanel would be nominated. I am just happy Poehler made it in as well.
Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical
Alec Baldwin, “30 Rock”
David Duchovny, “Californication”
Johnny Galecki, “The Big Bang Theory”
Thomas Jane, “Hung”
Matt LeBlanc, “Episodes”
HUH? I could ABSOLUTELY care less who wins this award. Honestly its so bizarre and boring. Why was Galecki nominated? And why was LeBlanc nominated? Esp over the likes of Ty Burell, Joel McHale, or STEVE CARELL!!!! God this category is lame.
Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made for Television
“Too Big to Fail”
Great field and they are all excellent films/miniseries. I hope Downton Abbey wins over Mildred Pierce though. Though I wouldn’t mind seeing The Hour win either.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Another great field. Winslet is taking the award though. No analysis needed.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Hugh Bonneville, “Downton Abbey”
Idris Elba, “Luther”
William Hurt, “Too Big To Fail”
Bill Nighy, “Page Eight”
Dominic West, “The Hour”
Stringer vs. McNulty!!!! That’s all I am taking away from this category. THE ONLY THING.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Jessica Lange, “American Horror Story”
Kelly MacDonald, “Boardwalk Empire”
Maggie Smith, “Downton Abbey”
Sofia Vergara, “Modern Family”
Evan Rachel Wood “Mildred Pierce”
Maggie Smith. That is all.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones”
Paul Giamatti, “Too Big to Fail”
Guy Pearce, “Mildred Pierce”
Tim Robbins, “Cinema Verite”
Eric Stonestreet, “Modern Family”
Peter Dinklage for the win. Though Giamatti was really good and so is Stonestreet. Kind of wish they would separate this category though. Jumbling it all together just makes no sense to me.
