The Vampire Diaries Review: The End of the Affair

You guys: that seriously was one of the best episodes of The Vampire Diaries I have ever seen. This season just keeps getting better and better and I am utterly fascinated by the storyline that developing with Stefan and Klaus. So let’s get to it and dissect The End of the Affair

FLASHBACK to the Roaring Twenties

Let me just get this out of the way first; can we have Klaus narrate all the flashback stories from now on? I mean, let’s be honest, him narrating this story made it that much more awesome!!

Klaus and Stefan’s destination this week was the great windy city! Klaus needed to see his favorite witch, Gloria. Chicago was also they old stomping grounds of Ripper Stefan from back in the 1920s. During their trip back to Chicago Stefan finds a picture at Gloria’s of him and Klaus from the 1920s. Stefan has no recollection of this picture being taken and that is when Stefan and the audience learn that they had met once before; in fact, they were actually the best of friends thanks to Stefan dating one of Klaus’s sisters.

Another Original!!!! And she’s Stefan’s Ex??

That’s right!! We met another Original this week! This time is was one of Klaus’ sisters, Rebekah. Turns out that she was Ripper Stefan’s girlfriend back in the twenties and that she, Stefan, and Klaus (known as Nik, at the time) were the best of friends; Klaus and Stefan called each other brothers! How sweet is that? Anyways, Rebekah was put to rest by Klaus after he found out that she was going to choose Stefan over him back in the 1920s. However, because she is the link to the finding the Original Witch, Klaus had to wake her up back in Chicago. I have a feeling that even though she’ll be happy to see Stefan, she’ll still be out for blood. I would be pissed if my brother kept me away from the world for 80+ years.

Now the other question is…will Rebekah and Stefan rekindle their romance now that he and Elena are kaput? I mean, for all this time Stefan had no memory of Rebekah thanks to Klaus. Is it possible that these two were once soulmates?

Who is Klaus running form? And why?

I love when Sebastian Roache plays the bad guy. He is just so damn good at it. So the question is why is Klaus running away from him? Is he the reason that Klaus needs his army of Hybrids? Also, is there a possibility that Katherine could be working with him? We saw her show up at the same time as he did in the 1920s, so are they in cahoots with each other? This wouldn’t surprise me in the least if that was the case. She is up to something, that is for sure and I cannot wait to find out what that something is!

Why is Caroline the one who always gets tortured??

How utterly heartbreaking was it to watch our favorite Vampire Barbie be tortured by her own father (played to perfection by the one and only Jack Coleman)? I mean the visuals they used to portray Bill trying to devampify his daughter were just as terrifying as Tyler’s first werewolf transformation. And serious props to Candice Accola for playing those scenes perfectly, this girl is a trooper. I hope they start giving her a lot more to do, she deserves it.

And how great was Tyler? First he told Caroline’s mother what was up and made sure that Sheriff Forbes found her daughter. Then after they rescued Caroline (how awesome was that scene??), he waited patiently as Caroline and her mom had a beautiful heart to heart. Then afterwards he held her in her bed as she cried about the fact that her father hates her. THESE TWO ARE MY FAVORITE TV COUPLE ON TV RIGHT NOW!!!!

Never has silence been so heartbreaking.

They really keep punching the Stefan and Elena fans in the gut this season, don’t they? Elena traveled with Damon to Chicago, this week, because Katherine told Damon about Stefan’s whereabouts. Damon then brings Elena to Stefan’s old apartment he shows her that Stefan used to write down the name of every person he killed. This still doesn’t terrify Elena. Then Damon leaves here there as he goes to find Stefan but he’s too late. Stefan and Klaus have already returned to Stefan’s apartment and Stefan finds Elena in the stowaway closet where all of the names of his victims are written. What we get is a heartbreaking scene where Stefan and Elena are reunited in silence. It is heart-wrenchingly beautiful and it made me tear up a little.

But their reunion was cut short when Stefan told Elena to go home and leave him alone. He told her that his time with her was over, that he was a changed person and she would never see him reformed again in her lifetime. Elena is finally faced with the reality that Stefan is gone. But this is Elena we are talking about, she probably won’t give up.

So what is going to happen next? I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with Stefan and Rebekah and I also can’t wait to see how Caroline continues to deal with her father. Also Bonnie returns next week! Finally!

Other Thoughts/Quotes

~Seriously, how awesome was that Scene with Klaus and Damon? Who knew that a cocktail umbrella could be so deadly?!?!

~“I’m a little boozy, so forgive me if I miss your heart the first few tries.”

~ They really made use of the diaries part of their title this week didn’t they? Glad to see them bring back Stefan’s journals.

~ “I’m confused. If we were such good friends, then why do I only know you as the hybrid dick who sacrificed my girlfriend on an altar of fire?”

~Klaus: I see they’ve opened the doors to the riffraff now.
Damon: Honey, I’ve been called worse.

~“Would now be a bad time to give you crap about sneaking out on me?”

~Um can we pause for a minute to talk about Tyler putting Caroline’s ring on her finger as he’s knelled down on one knee? Ummm WHAT??? Seriously that was pretty damn epic people. My shipper heart exploded during that scene.
