8 Reason’s Why You Should Be Watching MTV’s “Teen Wolf”

I have this theory that you shouldn’t write off a new show completely until you’ve seen at least 4-6 episodes of its first season. Sometimes it just takes a new show a little while to build up its premise before fully executing what they want to show the audience. This happened with shows like The Vampire Diaries, Nikita, Happy Endings, Game of Thrones, and many more. Had I actually listen to this theory, I would have known that I should have never finished watching The Killing, which never really improved after its stellar first two- three episodes.  But that is beside the point; the point is that after 6 episodes of the first season of Teen Wolf, I am actually starting like this show; Teen Wolf does has its flaws but the one thing is for sure, its finding its groove.

When I first heard about Teen Wolf I was skeptical; I thought, oh jeez here goes MTV trying to hop on the supernatural TV show bandwagon a la CW and HBO. However,Teen Wolf has actually turned out to be quite fun and interesting and dare I say it, kind of good. Also, just forget that this show is supposedly a remake off the ‘80s movie Teen Wolf, it won’t do you any good thinking about it, so just put it out of your mind right now and forget about it!

Here are 8 reasons why you should be watching Teen Wolf:

8. The kids look like they actually should be in high school

This one kind of explains itself. The great thing that MTV did was cast young hot looking actors/actresses who don’t look over the age of 25 to play high school students. Because of this the characters seem more believable.

7: Jackson is freaking weird

The whole link between the Alpha and Jackson (The Gate’s Colton Haynes) is making his character very fun to watch. You can tell that this is a kid who doesn’t like to be out of control and seeing him lose it is fascinating. That scene where he pulled out the claw from his mouth: disgusting yet totally unexpected and awesome. I can’t wait to find out what the deal is with him. Plus he has great chemistry with Allison (Crystal Reed)…I sense a triangle brewing!

6. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Lydia

Last week we learned that Lydia (Holland Roden) is, in fact, smart. She just doesn’t apply herself that much. Still I have a feeling there is more to this little vixen than meets the eye. I am totally getting a Summer Roberts meets Caroline Forbes vibe from her and I think by the seasons end she is going to be the one that surprises us the most!

5. The Scott/Allison Relationship isn’t boring

Though Scott’s (Tyler Posey) role in the relationship is starting to get a little annoying, I still haven’t become completely bored with the relationship between our Teen Wolf and his girlfriend, Allison. They have great chemistry together and they make their scenes fun to watch. My favorite scene has to be the one where Allison reveals the condom she stole out of her aunt’s bag in front of her Dad and her aunt and Scott was downright HILARIOUS. More scenes like that please

4. The show seems to have a plan

After the first couple of episodes of Teen Wolf I was afraid that the show was falling into the trap where they ask more questions than give answers. It seemed like the first three episodes kept raising new mysteries in the plot and they weren’t answering any of them, However after the fourth episode rolled around, the episode in which we meet Allison’s aunt; I knew that this show had an idea of where headed somewhere good. Last night, we learned that Allison’s dad descends from a long line of werewolf hunters. This was pretty obvious from the beginning but at least the show gave us some concrete answers. Next week, it looks like we might learn some more about the Alpha as well, which should be pretty cool because that werewolf monster looks hella crazy!

3. Derek Hale

Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) is losing it as each episode progresses and I am finding it utterly fascinating. I kind of hope they do a background episode on him, I feel like one thing this show is missing is one goof flashback episode. It worked for TVD and I think it can work for Teen Wolf. I wouldn’t go too heavy on the flashbacks but one episode in which they reveal a little history about Derek’s family would be awesome.  I really hope he’s not dead…

I know this show is about Scott but seriously, it’s Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) that is making me want to watch every week. This week he was absolutely ACE.  Stiles is the best friend everyone wants to have. He’s quirky, nerdy, hot, and he’s not afraid to throw lacrosse balls at your pelvic area when you’ve been an ass.  Seriously, this kid is awesome and I think its safe to say that he has become one of my favorite new TV characters this year.

1. Its totally The Vampire Diaries meets The OC

…and its totally working in their favor. Yes I just made that bold statement saying thatTeen Wolf is a blend of both The OC and The Vampire Dairies. Yes this show hasn’t yet reached the same caliber as OC season one and the past two seasons of TVD but Teen Wolfis certainly working its way up there.  The characters are all interesting and have a great deal of personality and the plot lines are keeping me very interested in the show. Next week we are going to see the 5 main teen characters, Scott, Jackson, Lydia, Stiles, and Allison locked in the school fighting off the Alpha wolf. My guess is we are going to see some serious bonding action going on and if the show plays this out right, it will be epic.

So yes, I am totally into Teen Wolf and anyone who is a fan of supernatural teen like drams should like it too. This show has finally gotten is groove on and if they can stick the landing, MTV might just have a huge hit on their hands. So start watching! Trust me, it’s worth it!
