I’ve been saying it for a while now, but Nikita has really come together since its first batch of episodes earlier this season. Over the past couple of episodes the show has continued to build up the pace, the story, and give way to future storylines if it is allowed more seasons (which I seriously hope they get!)
One of Nikita’s biggest problems early on was that it focused too much on Nikita working alone because she had Alex in Division. However, now, the show has brought back Owen and introduced Ryan, the framed CIA agent from last night’s episode, to help her out on the outside. Nikita has realized that she can’t take down Division and the group who finances it by herself, because, as Michael Vaughn once said, it’s not about cutting off the arm of the monster, it’s about severing its head.
By the way, I love Devon Sawa and I think he brings a lot to this show. I really love his dynamic with Maggie Q. Is it as electrifying as her chemistry with Shane West? No, but while Michael is off being brainwashed by Percy, I think is great that Nikita has someone helping her out and developing a connection or relationship with her. I for one, think he needs to be upped to a series regular and I hope the producers see this as well.
The other story lines were pretty interesting as well, though there are some I’d wish they’d refurbish. One of those storylines is Alex’s rivalry with Jaden. I don’t like it, it’s too forced, Jaden isn’t that great of a character and Alex ALWAYS beats here. I want to see Alex interact with different recruits. I mean, she is always down there, talking to Nikita via that secure chat server and NO ONE else notices? Seems a little off to me and I am positive that they could do more with it if they tried.
With that said, I did enjoy the plot development with Percy. I was skeptical about Xander Berkley’s acting up until the last couple of episodes and I can now say that he seems a lot more comfortable in this role. At the beginning he seemed way to stoic and stiff but as the episodes have rolled on and he has been given more of a story you begin to see that Percy is a character that you don’t want to mess with. He doesn’t have the charisma that Arvin Slone had in Alias and I am beginning to think that is a good thing. Percy is scary and he is a man whose shit list you DON’T want to be on or someone who he sees as expendable i.e. that engineer from last night (watch out Birkhoff you might be next.)
We have one more episode till it goes on winter hiatus for a couple of weeks. It looks like it’s going to be a crazy one and hopefully it will be enough to keep us calm till it returns in January!
