Manny Get Your Gun

Manny Get Your Gun was Modern Family at its best. I laughed the whole time, from the moment the first scene showed Manny in his mafia suit at the head of the table and everyone looking gloomy and depressed; I just knew this episode would be epic. It was Manny’s 13th birthday and everyone got together at Magiano’s for a celebratory dinner. However it was the getting there part that was what made the episode so wonderful.

Cam and Mitchell were walking and Cam had to stop every second to help someone out or look at something or buy something and Mitchell kept getting annoyed, per use. It seemed like typical Cam and Mitchell drama at first because Cam had to stop and help an elderly man talk to his elderly lover. Turned out that the woman had a husband and Cam realized he wasn’t going to deal with that. Then right as they were getting close to the restaurant, a flash mob dance broke out in the courtyard of the plaza and Mitchell jumped in. It was a choreographed dance number to Free Your Mind. It really saved their story because it was completely unlike Mitchell.

Gloria and Jay were fighting because Gloria couldn’t find her keys. They then argue over the fact that Gloria is unorganized. Jay makes great epic snarky comments. Gloria brought out a dart gun and shot it at Jay when she found out he moved her keys to her purse to prove a point. It was hilarious. Sophia Vergada was on the ball tonight. She was just absolutely stellar.

All of this was happening while Manny experienced a Mid Life crisis. Jay told him that he was “born 16” and Manny realized that he was right. He had totally skipped his childhood. So he tried to do as many kid things as he could; mixing different sodas and lounging in the pool. Eventually Manny realized that he didn’t have to worry because as all the adults had shown him that night, you never stop acting like a kid. It was very cute.

The best storyline however belongs to the Dunphys! Phil brought up Family Camp and how they needed to get registered. We then see him talk about how he was on the “White Team” which won the previous time they went. We then see Phil wearing a shirt that says “If you ain’t white you ain’t right.” I nearly died laughing because he then followed it up with a “White Domination” quote. It was amazing and so like Phil to be completely ignorant to the double meaning.

Anyways, Phil and Claire were fighting and decided to take two cars to see who could get to the restaurant first.  Alex and Haley go with Phil and Luke goes with Claire. Poor Luke thinks that because Claire and Phil took separate cars that it means they are getting a divorce and Claire stops the car to smooth things out with Luke. It was great seeing these two have a little story together. Haley and Alex to Phil they were over Family Camp and didn’t want to go which led to Phil crying which made Alex and Haley cry. It was adorable and funny and it was great to see that the girls do really care about their dad.

It was a great episode and I think the MVPs of the episode have to go to Manny, Gloria, and Phil because they all delivered some of the best lines in Modern Family history. They were excellent and they proved why this show is the best comedy on television. I love this show. Now on to the best quotes of the night!

“If you ain’t white, you ain’t right.”  –Phil’s unintentionally racist T-shirt and moto

Haley: Dad, that was a stop sign.

Phil: I’ll stop twice on the way back.
